Visitoz was set up to help Station and Property Owners and Managers employ the vast pool of backpackers wanting to experience life and work in the 'bush'. WORKERS AVAILABLE AG Work All participants wanting to do outside work of any kind, horse, cattle, sheep, tractor and dozer work particularly, are given an intensive four day Introduction to Agriculture/Assessment at Springbrook or one of our associate farms. We limit participant numbers to 2 to 4 per trainer. Topics covered are horse work, cattle mustering work and yard work, tractor operation, fencing, and chainsaw work. Riding ag bikes across rough country is also taught. During the four day period work is guaranteed for all those 'passing' the course. Domestic / Hospitality Work For those wanting purely domestic work, and we do have a few, there is cooking, cleaning, child care on the stations and waitressing / bar work in Host Farms or country hotels and pubs. Some Governesses and Tutors want only inside work - but most would come through the Course because they want to be able to help outside on the property when they are not in the schoolroom. Sometimes trained teachers are available, but more often those willing to undertake this work are graduates with a love of children and experience in some form of teaching. Pay & Working Conditions All participants are intelligent and learn fast - they have to - they only get five days for learning the skills we require. They are only allowed to work for up to 6 months for any one employer - (Australian Immigration Rules) - this does not apply to New Zealanders. If there is an Australian wanting the job there is no contest, we do not wish our Backpackers to displace Australians wanting to work in the bush. Wages vary from place to place and State to State, and from farming to cattle work, depending on the job, the hours and what living and working conditions are offered. The minimum is the Australian Award wage for the job, food and accommodation usually provided or allowed for. (Normal starting wage is about $400 and $300 for those under 20 and this includes accommodation and food. Tractor drivers are starting on about $800 at present). Those in hospitality and on cotton and grain farms usually get an hourly wage. In most cases we would expect the participants to be accommodated either with the family, or in quarters and eating with the family. Obviously there are exceptions to this, particularly on the big cattle stations. These young people are used to mixing with others, are good conversationists and have come from good homes - they do not want to be stuck out in a shed alone. Workers Courses start here every Monday at present and participants are ready to leave here on their way to a job every Saturday. We arrange their bus/air tickets by the quickest and / or cheapest route available, some have their own transport. Every Monday night by 8.00pm we update our website with the participants that are looking for work, and during the week as new people sign in for domestic or hospitality work, or second and subsequent jobs. You are able to access this by a Login Name and Password supplied by us once you have joined. Those without internet access can call and we can fax the list. Please respond quickly if you see someone on the list who would suit you, but please be aware that many others are looking for workers also. If you give us a second and third choice that helps a lot. If you can let us know on a Monday when you are looking for someone that is also a great help. We will always do our best. If by any chance you do not like them or vice versa we do an immediate change - no questions asked - this hasn't happened very often. Cost The cost to become a member of Visitoz is $220.  This is a once-off fee. I hope we can be of assistance to you.
