Internships

Visas are only possible for young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who are well qualified in some branch of Agriculture.

Visas have been granted in this section for citizens of South Africa, Namibia, Brazil, Argentina, Moldova, Ukraine and Iceland. Other countries where this visa is possible are Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Poland and Czech Republic - more may be added to the list in due course.

Those wishing to apply in this section must first enquire and then complete form 147 for the 416 Internship Visa.

This visa can only be granted with an Invitation Letter from Visitoz which must accompany the Visa application.
The cost for Internship applications is $5000 AUD - but you can deduct $2,400 if you can certify that you will travel on and use a return air ticket.

What can Visitoz do for you?

Visitoz offers a 365 day programme comprising inbound reception, an introduction to Australian agricultural techniques coupled with guaranteed work all paid at the union negotiated rate or better. The purpose of the Internship is to internationalise the participants’ agricultural skills and experience, and gain a cultural experience. It is not a Working Holiday or a job for the unemployed. Participants will undertake a training work placement in an industry related to their academic studies or background.

The Internship Visa is for young people between the ages of 18 & 30

  • From non Working Holiday and Work and Holiday countries:-
  • who are from ETA countries - Austria, Greece, Iceland, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland,  and have at least 12 months experience working in the agricultural industry, including engineering, agronomy and agricultural tourism, as a professional skilled person in paid employment in the last three years
  • OR are recent graduates that hold relevant training and educational qualifications OR are current students having completed at least half of a related course of study
  • OR are from an agricultural background and have worked with animals on a professional basis for at least the last two years – these could include but are not limited to:- sheep shearers, veterinarian nurses and technicians, farriers, agricultural tourism and fishing farming, horse breakers, AI specialists and sheep or cattle dog trainers
  • OR are from an agricultural / equine background and are fully competent in handling horses safely and possess practical experience in the daily care and maintenance of horses;  this includes working with racehorses or thoroughbred breeding, competing in polo, polocrosse, eventing, showing or endurance riding.
  • who are from non ETA countries – Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic, Moldova, Namibia, Poland, South Africa and Ukraine -  and are recent graduates that hold relevant educational / training qualifications, including agricultural engineering, agricultural tourism and agronomy – and includes young people who have attended specific agricultural based high school
  • OR are current students who have completed at least half of their course in a related course of study in order to have a break for practical work experience
  • OR are from an agricultural background and have worked with animals on a professional and full time basis for at least the last two years.  This could include but is not limited to shearers, vet nurses and technicians, agricultural tourism and agronomy, farriers, horse breakers, AI specialists and sheep or cattle dog trainers
  • OR are from an agricultural or equine background and are fully competent in all aspects of equine management and daily care and maintenance of horses.  Participants may also have skill in working with racehorses, breeding, polo, polocrosse, eventing, showing or endurance riding.
  • who qualify above AND have a proficiency in English of at least level 4.5 on IELTS or similar qualification.  This could include coming from a country where English is spoken widely or have spent a continuous period of at least five years at a school in which the classes are given in English.
  • This form of wording may seem unnecessarily complicated, but it is the wording used by the Department of Immigration in the Agreement with Visitoz

The following people would be excluded

  • unemployed people – those who are not currently undertaking any work or study
  • those who wish to use the programme as a quasi working holiday
  • those who would be eligible for another visa subclass to undertake the same activity
  • those who have no financial commitments or family ties that would provide sufficient inducement for them to return to their home country at the end of their stay in Australia.
  • those who have no current skills relating to the relevant industry that is, have not worked in the industry or studied towards relevant qualifications in the past three years
  • those who are undertaking non-related study, and intend to return to that study or career on return to their home country
  • those who have established a career in a non-related area and intend to return to that career on return to their home country
  • those who meet the requirements for an Occupational Trainee (subclass 442) or Long Stay Business (subclass 457) visa
  • Or those who have simply expressed a liking of Australia or animals.
  • The following positions are excluded from the programme: au pair, nanny, child minding, housekeeping, fruit and vegetable picking/harvesting or any other multiple placements where unskilled labour is required.

After submitting the Visitoz application form the participant will be given a job information request form and their details will be published for the employers to see.  A placement will be arranged for them this way and the details will be noted on the application form for the visa.     There will be no choice once on the training farm as was the case previously.

Agents in the countries listed above will be responsible for assessing the candidates by the criteria listed and obtaining certificates and references to back up the information submitted.    Agents may also be responsible for ensuring that their participants do not overstay their visa – obtaining another visa to stay excepted – at the end of their year in Australia.  A bond may be requested, or an insurance to cover such a bond

Participants must come to Australia with a non refundable, non cashable, return air ticket which they must use for their journey to and journey from Australia. Proof of full health insurance cover must be included with the Department of Immigration application form.

The First nine days comprise:

  • Met on arrival at Brisbane Airport, the preferred arrival is Thursday morning.
  • Transported to a hostel in central Brisbane
  • Hostel accommodation is included for one night.
  • Bus ticket to Rainbow Beach on Friday for three days to get over jet lag.
  • Hostel accommodation is included for three nights.
  • Bus ticket from Rainbow Beach to Gympie from where they are collected and brought to Goomeri.
  • Lunch in a restaurant and shopping in Goomeri.
  • Buy boots, long sleeved shirts, jeans, pocket knives, mobile phones, sim cards and phone cards, torches, adapters and alarm clocks if required.
  • Induction paper work including opening a bank account, applying for a Tax File Number
  • Choose a t-shirt and an Aussie Allrounder broad brimmed hat or a cap and a water bottle.

At this point participants are collected by their host farms for five nights.

While on the host training farm

You will ride horses and agricultural motorbikes, work with cattle, drive and operate tractors, work with fencing and chain sawing skills and have some basic vehicle maintenance tuition.  Farm and outback safety skills are also taught.

If you do not come from one of these countries all is not lost!

For applicants from countries which cannot have Working Holiday Visas, Work & Holiday Visas and these Internship visas there is an option of voluntary work experience in the agricultural sector in Australia on a Tourist Visa for either 3 or up to 6 months.    This can either be on the VVV (Visitoz Veterinary Volunteer), VAV (Visitoz Agricultural Volunteer) or the VHV (Visitoz Hospitality Volunteer) arrangement.   Volunteers are unpaid, but their food and accommodation is provided.   This programme is designed as Work Experience only for those wanting different experience in their industry and is not a Working Holiday.
